What Is Plurk?
What is Plurk? It’s something
we’ve been asked countless times by friends, family and almost anyone
we mention it to who has not got a Plurk profile. We even asked the
question ourselves… and to begin with it wasn’t very clear just what Plurk is all about.
What is Plurk?
The quote from the Plurk Creators
Then asking people who are using Plurk, this is what a few people said:“Noun. plurk (plüer-kh) – A really snazzy site that
allows you to showcase the events that make up your life in deliciously
digestible chunks. Low in fat, 5 calories per serving, yet chock full
of goodness.”
- “It’s like an instant messenger, but shorter”
- “It’s a social journal”
- “It’s similar to Twitter, but more fun and better to use”
- “It’s a micro-blogging website. A great way of keeping up with your friends busy lives”
- “It’s like mini conversations. You share what you want and your friends respond in their own time.”
I still don’t understand… what IS Plurk?
Plurk is a micro-blogging website – that is the best way to describe it and its uses.
Plurk is not a new Myspace or Facebook, it’s similar to TwitterMicro-blogging is a form of blogging
that allows users to write brief text updates (usually 140 characters)
and publish them, either to be viewed by anyone or by a restricted
group which can be chosen by the user. These messages can be submitted
by a variety of means, including text messaging, instant messaging, email, MP3 or the web.
because you just “blog” what you’re up to, how you’re feeling, ask
questions etc with a maximum of 140 characters. Friends reply and you
can reply to their Plurks.
I have a Plurk profile, along with Facebook – they are both
different things and I don’t find they “clash” – there’s a place for
both of them in my daily online life.
How does it work?
Below are some photos of what Plurk looks like, how it works and a better view to how great it is…
Add updates of what you did today
Plurk about how you are, what you’ve been doing lately, ask a couple of questions, share something…
Your updates are displayed on your timeline and shared with all your friends
When you update your plurk profile, you can see what you’ve said and so can your friends and fans!
You can see what other friends are doing today
Just like when you plurk and your friends see what you’ve plurked – you see what they say and can respond to their plurks.
You can chat with other friends and reply to their updates
Here you can see a Plurks responses. Your own replies, friends replies and the replies of the Plurker.
Where Do I Sign Up?
“Sign up to share short messages, links, videos and everything else with your friends.”
